In today’s contemporary design context, one can easily be taken away with the extravagant work of established designers and brands. What we must all remember is that even the big guys all began somewhere small. With that in mind I present Raymond Masara.
Raymond was born in Malawi, Africa in 1987. Since then he has steadily been making waves in the field of furniture design with his steel-rod wire-works, and has no plans on stopping. Earlier this year he was labelled as a 2011 emerging creative at the Design Indaba in Cape Town.
Raymond describes his style: “If you look at my designs you will see that I use a lot of colors compared to other designers that tend to use stainless steel, or other materials. The colors I use are inspired by nature and the twisting in my designs represents my childhood, the poverty, and pain growing up in the villages that I faced, the twisting keeps me close to my designs.”
dbriefed wishes Raymond Masara a successful future, and we look forward to seeing what it holds.
